Snow White's Apple Dumplings are a simplified version of a recipe from a children's Disney cookbook. These are super easy to make because they use store bought pie dough.

For my daughter's 5th birthday, she had a Snow White themed birthday party. I made a Snow White Doll Cake and Apple Cake Pops for the party. Because the party was not on her actual birthday, I wanted a special treat to have on her real birthday.
At the time, my girls were were always looking through this Disney Princess Cookbook. One of the recipes they wanted me to make was for Snow White's Apple Dumplings.
Although the original recipe calls for a homemade dough, I decided to use store bought pie dough to save some time. I was working on desserts and crafts for this Snow White Party at the time, so taking this shortcut was very helpful.
The pie dough is filled with a simple apple mixture before beings sealed, and a syrup is poured around the dumplings before baking to create a caramel sauce in the oven.
The girls loved these and thought having an individual desserts was really fun!
Assemble the Tarts
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Butter an 8- or 9-inch square glass baking pan.
Peel 2 apples, core them and cut them into quarters for a total of 8 pieces.
Cut 1 tablespoon of butter into 4 pieces.
I recommend using the pie dough that comes in a roll like Pillsbury. Unroll the pie dough on a cutting board or mat lightly dusted with flour. Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough just a little bit, rolling it into a 12-inch square.
Cut the dough into 4 equal squares.
Place 2 apple quarters and one piece of butter into the center of each square.
Mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a small bowl. Spoon the mixture onto the apples, dividing it equally between the dumplings.
To finish each dumpling, moisten the edges of the dough with water. Then, gather the dough corners together on top of the apple pieces and pinch them together. Place the dumplings in the pan, spaced about 1 inch apart.
Bake the Dumplings
Combine the syrup ingredients together in a small glass measuring cup. Stir well, and pour the syrup into the pan with the dumplings.
Bake the dumplings for 20 to 25 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the apples tender.
Allow the dumplings to cool for a few minutes. Then spoon some syrup over the top, and serve.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the dumplings warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
