These Easy Polar Bear Paw Cookies are made with store bought sugar cookie dough and chocolate chips. They are so cute and can be made in just minutes!

I made these Polar Bear Paw Cookies for my daughter's Golden Teddy Bear Birthday Party. In honor of her favorite teddy bears, a polar bear and a brown bear, the dessert table was divided into half polar bear treats and half brown bear treats.

Chocolate Bear Paw Cookies were the brown bear counterpart to these cookies. I also served Polar Bear Cake Pops, Polar Bear Cookies, Teddy Bear Cake Pops, Golden Teddy Bear Chocolate Covered Oreos, and a number of other treats I will share soon.
To save time, I used packaged refrigerated sugar cookie dough for these cookies. With all the desserts I was making, I needed any shortcut available!
These were very cute and delicious too!

Ingredients
- store bought sugar cookie dough
- granulated sugar
- Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers
- Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips

I used Pillsbury Ready To Bake Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Dough for these cookies. You can use any brand of refrigerated sugar cookie dough or even make homemade sugar cookies if you prefer.
Form the Cookie Dough
For a 16.5 ounce roll of cookie dough, divide it into 16 portions and roll them into balls.
Toss the balls of cookie dough in granulated sugar to coat. This step is optional.

Bake and Add Chocolate
Consult with your package of sugar cookie dough for baking time and temperature.
For the Pillsbury dough, I baked the cookies on parchment paper lined cookie sheets at 350°F for 11 to 15 minutes until the cookies were set. This is slightly under what the packages says of 13 to 17 minutes because I allowed the cookies to continue baking on the hot pan while they cooled.

Allow the cookies to cool for 1 minute on the cookie sheet, then place a single melting wafer flat side up in the lower-center of a cookie.
Next, place 4 semi-sweet chocolate chips flat side up around the top of the melting wafer to make the toes of the bear paw. Although actual polar bears have 5 toes, I was only able to fit 4.

Cool the cookies on the cookie sheet completely before packaging or storing.
Storage
Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. For best flavor and texture, these should be consumed within a few days of baking.
Gluten Free Option
Use gluten free refrigerated sugar cookie dough, such as Sweet Loren's. The chocolate wafers and chips are naturally gluten free, but please check your packaging for possible gluten contaminants.
