Instructions
Consult with your package of sugar cookie dough for baking time and temperature. For Pillsbury dough, preheat oven to 350°F. Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
For a 16.5 ounce roll of cookie dough, divide it into 16 portions and roll them into balls.
Toss the balls of cookie dough in granulated sugar to coat. This step is optional.

Place the cookie dough balls about 2 inches apart on the parchment lined cookie sheets.
For the Pillsbury dough, bake the cookies, one sheet at a time, for 11 to 15 minutes until the cookies are set. This is slightly under what the packages says of 13 to 17 minutes because the cookies will continue to cook on the cookie sheet when cooling.
Remove the cookie sheet from the oven. Allow the cookies to cool for 1 minute.
Place a single melting wafer flat side up in the lower-center of a cookie and 4 semi-sweet chocolate chips flat side up around the top of the melting wafer to make the toes of the bear paw.
Cool the cookies on the cookie sheet completely before packaging or storing.
