This Nutcracker Birthday Party is the perfect theme for a December birthday. The gold and pastel color scheme is so pretty.
My daughter chose a Nutcracker "Sweet" birthday theme based on the Nutcracker Suite Ballet for her 10th birthday.
She wanted a gold and pastel color palette, which fit with the Clara and Nutcracker ornaments we already owned.
Thankfully, I had several snowflake items that I used for her FROZEN Birthday Party that I was able to reuse for this one.
I had so much fun decorating for this party!
Backdrop
To make the dessert table backdrop, I hung up gold disposable plastic tablecloths to cover the windows and glass door in this bay window in our breakfast room. These are quite thin so they let through enough light during the day but make the blinds behind it less noticeable.
Then, I attached champagne gold fridge curtains to the tops of those tablecloths to completely cover the tablecloth, so the background was just sparkly metallic gold.
I used balloon tape to attach gold and rose gold balloons to the ceiling using tiny Command hooks.
I hung rose gold foil fans from Command hooks on the ceiling as well.
To make the framed artwork, I used PowerPoint to add the figures around the Christmas tree and then chose a scripty font to type "The Nutcracker 'Sweet'" above it. I printed this on white cardstock and placed it in a white wood frame. I hung it from a larger Command hook on this glass door leading out to our deck.
Dessert Table
I covered a rectangular folding table with a white table cloth topped with a rose gold sequin tablecloth.
Then, I decorated the table with snowflake ornaments, glass Christmas trees, a mercury glass Christmas tree, a Clara ornament, a Nutcracker ornament, a Unicorn Nutcracker, and some mercury glass votive holders, as well as some battery operated wire string lights.
I filled small white square dishes with pastel butter mints.
Cookies
I used this 3-tiered server to display the cookies.
I made Iced Vanilla Shortbread Cookies in star shapes and either painted with gold luster dust or dipped in sanding sugar.
I also made these Snowflake Cookies. They have a soft icing glaze with minimal royal icing details.
I used these Royal Icing Snowflakes to decorate the platters.
Although I did not make these Sugar Plum Jam Shortbread Cookies for this party, they would go perfect with the theme!
These Pastel Christmas Royal Icing Cookies would go well with this theme too.
Cherry Cordial Mice
Details for these adorable Cherry Cordial Mice can be found in that post. I placed them on a white rectangular serving platter.
I then added some Royal Icing Snowflakes around the mice.
Nutcracker Cake
I decorated a Mocha Cheesecake to be a Nutcracker Birthday Cake. To display the cake, I placed the white cake stand on a hammered silver tray and sprinkled faux snow over the surface of the tray.
The cake stand was adorned with Cherry Cordial Mice and Royal Icing Snowflakes.
Dining Table
I used a shiny gold foil disposable table cloth for the dining table. Then I arranged flat snowflake ornaments down the center of the table, with snowflake confetti table scatter and a mercury glass hurricane in the center.
