A homemade version of Tyson Blackened Chicken Strips, but you can control the carbs and sodium. These are low carb and gluten free.

Several years ago, I discovered Tyson Blackened Chicken Strips in the freezer section of a store. Unlike most store bought chicken tenders, these had no breading and were gluten free. They also tasted really good!
They were a little too spicy for my kids, but I usually could handle the spice. I liked cutting them up for salads, tacos, and even BBQ Chicken Pizza made with No Yeast Pizza Dough.
They are only available at one store near me that I don't usually go to for groceries, so I wanted to try making my own version from scratch. Additionally, there were occasionally gristly pieces that were unappetizing.
I checked the ingredient list before deciding what spices I would include, although my spice mix is a bit different. I like that the spiciness can be adjusted, as well as how much of the seasoning mix is used depending on how much flavor you prefer.
I used chicken tenders for this recipe, rather than cutting up pieces of chicken breasts, and they came out juicy and delicious.
Mix the Seasoning

Mix the seasoning ingredients in a small bowl. You can adjust the heat by increasing or decreasing the amount of cayenne.
The Tyson chicken strips are made with cornstarch, which gives them more of a coating. I have added cornstarch to this recipe as optional. It will add some carbs, so if you care about that, you can just skip it.
I did not use the cornstarch when I made these.

Coat and Cook the Chicken
You can choose to coat the chicken in a lot of or little of the seasoning. I prefer a lot to more closely mimic the Tyson strips, but my husband said I put a little too much for him, so it's really a personal decision how much you use.

After coating the strips in seasoning, spray them with olive oil spray on both sides.
Cook them in the air fryer or in the oven on a greased aluminum foil lined baking sheet until the internal temperature reaches at least 165°F.
Serving Suggestions
You can serve the chicken tenders with a dipping sauce, like ranch dressing.

You can cut them up and use them for salads, pastas, pizzas, quesadillas, or tacos.
Gluten Free
This recipe is naturally gluten free. If using cornstarch, check your packaging for possible gluten contaminants.
