Beer Bread is an easy quick bread recipe with just a few ingredients (no yeast!). It goes great alongside pasta or your favorite soup or salad.
Beer Bread is a savory quick bread that is great with pasta, soup or chili. The batter is made in just minutes and bakes in under an hour.
The original recipe calls for self-rising flour, which I don't typically keep on hand, so I've adjusted the recipe for all purpose flour. I have included directions for self-rising flour if you prefer to use that.
Make the Batter
Sift together the dry ingredients. Whisk to mix.
Pour in the beer.
Mix with a spatula until all of the flour has been incorporated.
Bake the Bread
Transfer the batter to a greased loaf pan.
Bake the loaf at 350°F for 25 minutes. Drizzle melted butter on top and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes.
Remove the pan and allow to cool for 10 minutes before unmolding the loaf and allow to cool further.
Slice and serve. The bread is easier to slice when it is cool, but it tastes best warm, so use your judgement on when to slice it.
Serve with salted butter, honey butter, or garlic herb butter.
Self-Rising Flour Option
Use 3 cups of self-rising flour in place of the all purpose flour, baking powder and salt. This means you would mix the self-rising flour with the sugar first, then stir in the beer to make the batter.
Variations
Some people like to mix in cheddar cheese and/or jalapenos before baking.
Gluten Free Option
I have not tried it myself with this recipe, but you may try substituting gluten free flour blend, such as Bob's Red Mill or King Arthur brand, in place of the all purpose flour. Be advised that the bread may turn out more dense and crumbly.
