These Baked Hawaiian Sandwiches are sliders with ham or turkey and have the option of a mustard poppy seed topping or an Italian dressing mix topping.

These Baked Hawaiian Sandwiches are perfect for serving at parties because you can make a big pan of them ahead of time and just bake them right before guests arrive. They are also easily transported if you're taking them to someone else's party.
My girls love these so much. We got into a pattern of having them at every birthday party and family event, so much so that my dad finally requested we have something else because we had them so many times!
I have made them with two different toppings: a mustard poppy seed topping and an Italian dressing mix topping. I like both, so I'm including both topping recipes. You can even do a pan of each!
Jump to:
Mustard Poppy Seed Topping
- melted butter
- poppy seeds
- mustard powder
- Worcestershire sauce
- garlic powder
Combine the melted butter with the other ingredients.
Italian Dressing Topping
- melted butter
- dry Italian dressing mix
Combine the melted butter with the dressing mix.
Assemble the Sandwiches
The original recipe calls for both ham and turkey. Since I don't eat ham, I usually do a batch of only turkey and a batch of only ham or both ham and turkey. I've never tried pastrami but that would be good too!
The easiest way to assemble the sandwiches is to keep the Hawaiian rolls attached rather than separate the rolls. You can cut the entire section of 12 rolls in half at the same time so that all of the bottoms and all of the tops are still attached.
Two packages of 12-rolls fit nicely in a 13x9-inch pan. If you want to cut the recipe in half to make just 12 sandwiches, just use a smaller pan.
Place the bottom half of all 24 rolls in a buttered 13x9-inch pan. Brush the rolls with some of the topping. Then, layer the meat and cheese twice. Place the tops of the rolls on top and spread the remaining topping over the rolls, allowing the extra to run down in between and around the edges of the rolls.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake until the rolls have browned and the cheese is melted.
Adjust the Amount
This recipe is easily doubled or cut in half. Use two 13x9-inch baking pans to make 48 sandwiches. I usually plan about 2 or 3 sandwiches per adult for a party, depending on how many sides there are.
Gluten Free Option
Use gluten free rolls in place of the Hawaiian rolls. The sandwiches will not be as sweet, unless you're able to find gluten free Hawaiian rolls. You could add a little melted honey butter on top of the rolls during the last minutes of cooking to add sweetness.
