These Gold Painted Oreos are an easy, no-bake, semi-homemade treat that are so beautiful for any gold themed event, birthday, holiday or dessert table.

My oldest daughter's 13th birthday also happened to be her Golden Birthday, which is when your age matches the day of the month. Rather than a specific theme, she wanted a Golden Birthday Party with gold decorations and desserts.
When I am designing dessert tables for my girls' birthdays, I like to include some semi-homemade treats in the mix to save time. I usually dedicate a large chuck of time to the birthday cake, so having a few items that can be made quickly and do not require baking is so helpful.
For these cookies, I mixed up an edible gold luster dust suspension the same way I have done to paint fondant on a Rainbow Unicorn Cake and Butterbeer Cake and to paint cookies like Golden Teddy Bear Chocolate Covered Oreos, Gold Painted Cookies, Gold Painted Macarons and Nut Free Golden Snitch Macarons.

Gold Painted Oreos would fit the theme for a 50th Anniversary Party, a wedding shower, or even a Harry Potter dessert table!
Supplies
- Golden Oreos
- Gold edible luster dust
- Paint palette dedicated to food
- Food grade paintbrush
- Disposable transfer pipette
- Everclear or vodka
- Gold edible glitter, optional
Start with Golden Oreos, which are vanilla instead of the traditional chocolate.
I buy my gold luster dust locally, but I have heard good things about the gold luster dust from Truly Mad Plastics.
Mix the Gold Suspension
Pour some Everclear or vodka into a small bowl.

Tap some gold luster dust into the well of a food-dedicated paint palette.

Use a plastic transfer pipette to transfer a few drops of alcohol to the well with the dust. Stir it around with a food grade paintbrush to make the gold suspension. You may need to add more luster dust or more alcohol depending on the consistency of the suspension.

Paint the Oreos

Dip the paintbrush into the liquid gold and then quickly brush across the top surface of the Oreo cookie, making sure to also paint the sides of the top wafer.
Repeat with the remaining Oreos. As you use the suspension, you will need to remake more in the same well. The alcohol evaporates quickly, so if you don't use it right away, you will need to add another drop or two to get the suspension back to the original consistency.
Once the first side of the cookies has dried, flip them over and repeat the process on the second side.

This is optional, but I like to sprinkle them with gold edible glitter. It adds extra sparkle! I sprinkled it on this Caramel Mocha Ice Cream Cake for the party and loved it so much that I added it to all of the treats!

Storage
Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to several weeks.
Gluten Free Option
Use gluten free vanilla sandwich cookies like Glutino.
